The Best Women’s Razors (for Every Body)
“Of dainty size, in 14-K gold plate, enclosed in a velvet- and satin-lined French Ivory case,” the earliest razor marketed to women sounded more like an object of desire than a tool of depilation, with the luxury price tag to match: $5 in 1915, or about $165 today.
Clearly, a lot has changed since Gillette’s Milady Decolleté debuted on the eve of the flapper era, as many an armpit was about to go bare for the first time. Beyond the increasing budget-friendliness of women’s razors — and, yes, the corresponding mountain of pastel plastic — there’s the improved engineering. Unlike their facial counterparts, these tools are designed to be used on broad expanses of skin in the slippery arena of the shower, where you need not be a woman to appreciate such attributes.
In fact, we had a dozen people across genders and generations test 25 razors (we try not to lean on archetypes, but yeah, a men’s-cycling-club member was in the mix). And we’ve concluded that one razor is the best all-around, while another model throws a good, firm grip into the bargain.
