You Don’t Need More Space. You Just Need More Mirrors.

Unless you live in a mansion on the sun, chances are you’ve had a space in your home that you wished were brighter or bigger — or both. I have never lived somewhere that felt bright enough for my sun-hungry disposition, and mirrors are one of my favorite tricks to correct for this, without altering the dimensions of my home.

Typically, to create spaciousness, we have to take things away: objects, clutter, walls. But adding a light-reflecting mirror is an oft overlooked way to give a space a sense of expansiveness. Any of our favorite mirrors can help facilitate this optical illusion — but for more tips, I consulted several interior designers and architects on their favorite ways to employ mirrors, particularly when problem-solving dark or tight spaces. Whether your taste leans modern minimalist, expressive maximalist, or in between, creative mirroring is a powerful tool to make a room feel bigger, brighter, and more open.
