Our Favorite Shower Caps

Whether you’re trying to protect a fresh blowout, braids, curls, or coils, a well-fitting and fully waterproof shower cap can be a game changer for people who can’t or don’t want to disturb their hairstyle every time they bathe. And if you’ve used only flimsy hotel freebies or plastic grocery bags (we’ve been there), you might be surprised to find that there are significantly better shower cap options available.

I should know: I’m a lifelong shower cap enthusiast, both as someone who wears them and as an aspiring designer. (I have dozens of prototypes under my belt, stemming from my decade-long attempt to help folks feel more empowered when they shower.)

With the help of a diverse group of people who have different hairstyles and head sizes, we’ve now tested more than 30 shower caps since the creation of this guide, in 2022. And we currently recommend a luxury satin-lined cap, an extra-roomy budget option, and a cute and basic traditional cap.
