How a Broadway Veteran Tackles Stains, Snaps, and Rips Backstage at ‘Boop!’

A night on Broadway can be dazzling. But behind the scenes, it’s often a chaotic storm of wardrobe menaces: oily stage makeup, sweat-inducing spotlights, and a dimly lit backstage that lends itself to lost jewelry and torn costumes.

Broadway dresser Michelina Evans deals with this almost every day. So she comes to work equipped to fix anything: a stain, a rip, a snapped shoe strap, or a broken heel. And she does it all nearly in the dark.

Evans’s latest job? Dressing Betty Boop herself, as played by actress Jasmine Amy Rogers, backstage at Boop! The Musical.

We caught up with Evans behind the scenes and learned how she handles whatever wardrobe challenges come her way — and how you can apply her techniques and tricks in your life too. After all, the show must go on.

If you’re a parent of a child under 10, you’ve probably heard of The Nugget, the beloved play sofa that launched a thousand (well, at least 20) competitors.
