Sometimes the right cleaning luxury, one that makes a tedious chore a little easier, more satisfying, or just less gross, can be completely worth it—even if it seems exorbitant. Case in point: these custom trash-can liners that have completely changed cleaning expert and staff writer Caroline Mullen’s garbage-day game. Do you need custom-made liners for your trash can? No. But they might make a surprising difference.

After far too many times futzing with too-small trash bags (in her extra-large trash can) and squashing down garbage only to tear holes—Caroline splurged on a box of 100 made-to-measure liners.

A year later, she’s never looked back: “You wouldn’t think trash bags would change my life, but, honestly, they have. We interact with the trash can countless times a day, so having a trash bag that does its job—stays put, doesn’t rip, keeps the inside of the can clean, and easily slides out for disposal—is a highly underrated convenience.”
